Average Down Payment Declines For Home Purchases Around US, Up Slightly in Georgia

According to recent data, the average down payment on new homes across the US with conventional, thirty year home mortgage loans decreased nearly ten percent in the third quarter of 2018. Home buyers in California put down the largest average down payment of nearly $98,000 or 21.44 percent, while borrowers in Alaska averaged the lowest down payment of $36,476 or 15.41%. Georgia home buyers put down, on average, $43,179 or nearly 18 percent, a slight increase of 0.60%. Georgia ranked number 31 among the fifty states.
