Confidence in US Housing Market Hits Record Level
Strong economic conditions and rising home prices in Atlanta and around the country helped push Fannie Mae's Home Purchase Sentiment Index to record levels in April. The Home Purchase Sentiment Index is based on questions asked to approximately 1000 consumers by telephone each month to measure consumer sentiment regarding the housing market. Consumer answers to six of the questions on the survey that are related to the real estate market and the stability of the consumers' employment and financial situation are analyzed to determine the monthly HPSI index. Although confidence in the US housing market is strong, fewer consumers believe that now is a good time to buy a home compared with March's numbers, according to the index.
