Fewer Americans Moving Out of State

Data from the past five years shows that fewer Americans are moving out of state than in past decades, a trend that could have a negative impact on the real estate market. Each year during the past five years, an average of 10% of Americans moved from one state to another, compared to an average of 20% of Americans each year between the 1940s and 1980s. Analysts say that a variety of factors, including rising home prices, student loan debt, and the trend of multigenerational housing have led to the decline in out of state moves.
