First Quarter 2018 Home Prices Up

Home prices rose rapidly in the metro Atlanta area and around the country during the first quarter of 2018. While demand for homes remains strong, construction of new homes continues to lag normal levels, causing prices to spike. Home prices in March 2018 were 8% higher when compared to average home prices a year earlier. Entry level buyers are most affected by the price increases because lower priced homes are appreciating most rapidly, pricing many entry level buyers out of the market or forcing them to consider homes well outside of their desired neighborhoods. In metro Atlanta, the median listing price rose to $120 per square foot. The median listing price per square foot within the city of Atlanta rose to $231.
