Median Home Prices Rise in Metro Atlanta, but Bargain Homes Still Available

The median sales price of a home in the five core counties of metro Atlanta has risen more than 21% in the past three years to $254,900, pushing many potential homebuyers out of the market. However, homebuyers who know where to look can still find affordable homes in metro Atlanta. By county, median home prices range from $133,250 in Clayton to $380,000 in Fulton. However, prices can vary greatly within counties. In Cobb County, where the median sales price of a home is $298,500, for example, bargain hunters will have better luck if they focus their search on more affordable West or South Cobb rather than the pricier eastern section of the county. Gwinnett, Clayton, Fulton, and DeKalb counties have similar geographic price differences within their borders. In a region as sprawling as metro Atlanta, however, homebuyers should always consider their lifestyles and potential commuting times before committing to the purchase of any home, regardless of the price.
