More Georgians Turning to Multigenerational Housing

More Georgians are turning to multigenerational housing.  While research shows that more than a fifth of aging Atlanta residents already live in this type of housing, the current low inventory of Atlanta area homes and rising home prices is makig the trend even more appealing.  As noted in Alanta Agent, multigenerational homes, while allowing family members to spend more time together, are also less expensive for families than maintaining multiple residences.  Having family members under the same roof often helps lower the cost of caring for aging parents and even childcare expenses when grandparents are able to assist.  The burden of other household expenses such as home mortgage payments, utilities, property taxes, etc, is also lower with the assistance of additional family members.
