More Home Buyers Seek Environmentally Friendly Properties
Realtors across the Atlanta area and around the country report that home buyers increasingly look for environmentally friendly or 'green' characteristics in their new homes. Homes with one or more of these features usually sell more quickly and at a higher sales price than other properties. Environmentally friendly features include solar panels, ultra efficient insulation, water saving toilets, locally sourced building materials, Energy Star rated appliances, landscaping with native plants, and other features designed to conserve or to use energy more efficiently. Although homes designed from the ground up with energy conservation in mind can cost up to 5 percent more to build, they often shave up to 50 percent off the homeowner's monthly utility bills.
