Delivery of Newly Constructed Homes Expected to Decline in Coming Years

In a recent survey of economists, respondents reported that they expect fewer single family homes to be constructed in the coming years, although they expect the economy to remain relatively strong through 2021. The economists cited lower demand for new construction due primarily to recent new tariffs and noted that the coming slowdown in new home construction will be the first since 2008. Growth in home prices is expected to average over 3 percent during the next three years.
