Georgia Home Builders Face Strong Demand, Worry About Tariffs

With the economy remaining strong and millennials continuing to form new households, housing starts rose 5% across the US in May as builders attempted to meet the rising demand. During the same period, however, permits for new single family homes fell nearly 14% in the South as builders concerned with rising home building costs and the potential effects of new tariffs put some new home construction plans on hold. Many economists, however, believe that the number of new homes under construction will increase in the coming months as continuing demand spurs new development.
